On Shabbat morning February 24th, we’ll have the privilege and joy of learning with our very own Rabbi Aaron Lerner, who recently assumed the position of president and CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles. Rabbi Aaron will lead us through the ins and outs of practical and Halachic decision-making when it comes to practicing tzedakah, and will introduce us the ways that the Jewish Foundation can help us fulfill this vital Mitzvah. 

In 2023, the Jewish Community Foundation of LA helped its accountholders distribute more than $180 millioin to 12,000 nonprofits in amounts from $100 to $10 million. Rabbi Aaron will offer reflections on his interactions with a broad swath of donors, including many in our BDJ family. He will also provide thoughts about the most common questions: How much to give? What counts as tzedakah? Before or after taxes? Does day school tuition count? How to get your kids involved? And more.
