SHIRAT CHANA

Shirat Chana is a women's group that meets at BDJ, generating new opportunities for women to study torah and daven (pray). We began meeting in 1997 and have since become an important component of BDJ and the Los Angeles Jewish community. The group provides unparalleled opportunities for spiritual and intellectual growth.

Our monthly Shabbat mincha tefillah and torah study enriches and elevates its participants. Everyone is encouraged to participate, regardless of skill level, knowledge or proficiency. The davening stays fresh and alive as each woman leading the participants brings her own melodies and style to the prayer.

Torah study sessions also maintain originality, reflecting the particular interests, strengths and background of the leader. These encounters are highly interactive, with each woman around the table contributing her own unique perspective and commentary to the material being discussed.

These get-togethers also permit us to set the stage for important life events, which we have the blessing of sharing together. Several of the twelve-year old girls in our community have celebrated their bat mitzvahs at Shirat Chana. Every year on Purim, we have a lively megilah reading and on Simchat Torah we sponsor a separate women's reading.

Shirat Chana is always looking for more women who can enrich us with their experiences and who can be enriched by this thriving community of women seeking a powerful connection to
G-d and our profound common heritage.

To find out more about Shirat Chana and to participate, please call (310) 276-9269 or send email to Julie Fax or Sari Abrams.
