Starting in 7th grade, and through high school, teenagers learn to take charge of their own davening in the weekly Teen Minyan, which is held in the Beit Midrash concurrently with regular Shabbat morning services. With just a little nudging from our adult counselors, Adam Winter and Avigayil Metal, the teens lead all the prayers, share words of Torah, and chant the Torah portion. The service is punctuated with instructional and educational direction, giving our young men and women a firm foothold in participating in and leading a prayer service. Special care is taken to make sure our female congregants have a meaningful participation. We're sure it is the spiritual and educational value - and not the famous teen minyan kiddush with its hot wings, deli platters, chulent, and desserts - that makes this minyan so popular not only with teens, but with some renegade adults who find their way in, too.
Once every year, the larger congregation is treated to Teen Takeover Shabbat, where members of the Teen Minyan lead every aspect of the service, from davening to D'var Torah to Torah Reading!
Note: Teen Minyan begins each Shabbat and Yom Tov at 9:15 in the Beit Midrash.

BDJuniors, our Middle School group for 6th-8th graders, enjoy activities throughout the year including BBQs, Field Trips, Shabbat Dinners, Games, and the famous Monday Mishmar Madness, where they might meet a real-life Torah scribe, or learn the ins and outs of making chicken soup.
