From Yesterday to Tomorrow...
Our building has functioned as a shul since 1964, when Rabbi
Philip Schroit (z''l) moved the congregation into this former
movie palace. As the population and neighborhood changed,
a generation of young Modern Orthodox families defined a new
identity for our congregation.
In 1996, we were blessed with the intellect and energy of
Rabbi Yosef Kanefsky, who leads us as we strive to be a beacon
for Modern Orthodoxy in Los Angeles.
We are now read to put our stamp on this building, to make
it work for us and for our children. We were given this building,
now let us make it our own. Let us fill it with glory for
God and dignity for all of God's children.
The Space We Need...
Our congregation is growing: New families are joining and
in the last year aolne 25 babies have been born to member
families! Eight years ago, eight classrooms housed 60 children.
Today, they house 180 children. Our adult education program
continues to expand despite inadequate space. This renovation
will provide us with five new multi-purpose rooms to serve
as Rechov Yeladim classrooms as
well as space for adult education.
Worthy Of Dignity...
Redesigned access will welcome our aging members and disabled
individuals into our prayer, education, and celebration spaces
with ramps to the Bimah, accessible restrooms and an elevator
to the Gold Room. As a Modern Orthodox community, we should
provide men and women with equal prayer spaces. This renovation
will place the Mechitza in the middle and allow for a more
flexible and intimate sanctuary.
Beautify Our Surroundings...
This renovation will refresh our facade, upgrade the courtyard,
brighten up the lobby and install windows to provide natural
light into our sanctuary. This campaign will fill God's house
with dignity and glory so that the beauty that greets us when
we enter our shul will awaken and inspire our spiritual yearnings.
Our sacred space can better reflect our values
and mission and provide a beautiful foundation on which
our prayers, learning, celebrations and caring for each other
can grow.
